“It took me a lifetime to find the courage to write my autobiography. I want to tell the moments—the highs and lows, triumphs and traumas, failures and dreams—that made me who I am today. Despite countless stories about me throughout my career and very public life, no magazine article or ten-minute interview could convey the complexity and depth of my experience. My words were always filtered through someone else's perception.
This book is made of my memories, struggles, survival and songs, without a filter. I went deep into my childhood and gave the frightened little girl inside me a strong voice. I let the abandoned, ambitious teenager tell her story, and the betrayed, triumphant woman tell her truth.
Writing this autobiography was very difficult, but it brought me humility and healing. My sincere hope is that it offers a new understanding not only of me, but also of the resilience of the human spirit.
